About Us

Icarus Aviation began as a way to fill a need.

Mid-Missouri was sorely lacking in any sort of helicopter activity, especially training. The closest helicopter flight schools are at the very edges of the state, not at all convenient for anyone in the middle of the state.

Owner Charles Beesley was in this same predicament when he began training for his helicopter licenses. Charles has been flying helicopters since 2017. He is a disabled Marine Corps veteran with a Bachelor’s Degree in Aviation Management.

Helping with financial aid, student enrollment, and office management is Owner Bethany Beesley. She is a registered Echo Cardiographer and in her downtime helps out with Icarus Aviation’s daily tasks

Training

Ground Lesson

Varies

We sit down, one on one, and discuss everything related to helicopters and aviation in general. This is where you will learn the required knowledge, how it applies to aviation, and the maneuvers you will perform in the air. A number of these hours are highly recommended for each rating.

Private Pilot License

40 flight hours (40 ground lesson hours)

The first step in your helicopter flight training. This is meant for those people who are not looking to make a career out of flying, but just want to fly for their own leisure.

Instrument Rating

50 flight hours (40 ground lesson hours)

The next recommended step toward your career as a pilot. This course earns you the rating that allows you to fly solely by the instruments located in the helicopter. Learn in a controlled environment the skills you will need in case you find yourself in bad weather!

Commercial Pilot License

150 flight hours (40 ground lesson hours)

The required hours from your previous rating applies to the required hours of this license. As a commercial pilot, you will be able to accept payment in return for you piloting skills!

Certified Flight Instructor

25 flight hours (60 ground lesson hours)

Become the instructor that trains the next generation of pilots!

Certified Flight Instructor-Instrument

20 flight hours (30 ground lesson hours)

With this rating, you will be able to instruct students earning their instrument rating.

*All flight hours listed are minimums and do not guarantee you will be ready at that point in your training. All students learn at different rates of speed.
